Effective Book Launch Strategies

February 10, 2025·6 min read

A successful book launch doesn't happen by accident. It's the result of weeks of preparation, strategic sequencing, and knowing which levers to pull at the right moment.

The 8-Week Pre-Launch Countdown

8 Weeks Out

  • Finalise your cover and back-cover copy
  • Set up your Amazon Author Central page
  • Identify 20-30 ARC readers in your genre
  • 6 Weeks Out

  • Send ARCs to early readers
  • Begin building your launch team (10-20 engaged fans who will help spread the word)
  • Schedule all social media content in advance
  • 4 Weeks Out

  • Start teasing the book on social media and email
  • Confirm all launch day commitments (podcast appearances, guest posts, etc.)
  • Secure early reviews from ARC readers on Goodreads
  • 2 Weeks Out

  • Final email to your list with launch date reminder
  • Set up any pre-order links
  • Confirm BookTok/BookTuber partnerships if applicable
  • Launch Week

  • Day 1 email to full list with direct purchase links
  • Daily social content for 7 days
  • Engage with every comment, review, and mention personally
  • The Algorithm Play

Amazon and other retailers reward books that sell steadily over time more than books that spike and die. Aim for consistent daily sales in the first 30 days by:

  • Spreading your launch team purchases across the first week
  • Running a promotional price for weeks 2-3
  • Timing a BookBub Featured Deal (if eligible) for week 3-4
  • Post-Launch: The 90-Day Window

The first 90 days of a book's life are critical for algorithmic placement. Keep momentum up with:

  • A second email to your list at the 30-day mark with any reviews or social proof
  • A price promotion or free day (if in KDP Select) at day 45-60
  • Active community engagement and reader shout-outs
  • Measure What Matters

    Track these metrics weekly:

  • Units sold: (not just revenue)
  • Amazon Best Seller Rank: in your categories
  • **Review count and rating**
  • Email list growth: attributed to the book
  • A well-executed launch builds momentum that can carry a book for months or even years. The fundamentals never change: start early, be consistent, and always serve your reader first.
