How a title moves through HoloPress

Every title goes through the same six stages, from source files to a delivered EPUB and its reports.
  1. Upload the source

IDML package or print PDF. Title, author, and ISBN detected.

  2. Map the styles

Styles mapped to structure, saved per publisher.

  3. Describe the images

Alt text for every image, or marked decorative.

  4. Build and validate

EPUB 3 packaged, checked with EPUBCheck and DAISY Ace.

  5. Review against print

Live preview, compared page by page with print.

  6. Deliver

EPUB delivered with its Ace and EPUBCheck reports.

Why we start from InDesign

Structure comes from the typesetter

IDML keeps the styles, stories, and reading order the book was set with, so headings and notes are identified, not guessed from positions on a page.

Print and digital stay in step

The EPUB is built from the same files as the printed book, with print page numbers carried through for classroom and citation use.

Publisher rules are remembered

House styles and special cases are captured once per publisher and reused on every title in the list.

What every EPUB includes

Built in by HoloPress, not added by hand afterwards.
  • Table of contents, landmarks, and lists of figures and tables
  • Print page list and page-break markers, so citations still work
  • Footnotes and endnotes linked in both directions
  • Index entries linked to the text they point to
  • Figures and tables placed where the text first cites them
  • Your book’s own typefaces embedded
  • Equations from InDesign as MathML, with a text alternative for screen readers
  • Accessibility metadata that describes the book to reading systems
  • Text colours adjusted where needed to keep contrast readable

Alt text, drafted privately

HoloPress can draft image descriptions and suggest whether an image is decorative or informative. The model runs on our own servers, so your unpublished book is never sent to an outside AI service.

Drafts are a starting point. Each description can be edited, and the full set can go to your editors as a spreadsheet and come back into the book.

Our three platforms

Each covers a different part of publishing: new print books, accessible eBooks, and files already on sale.
